Zuri sits on the north coast at Kendwa, on one of the few Zanzibar beaches that stays swimmable whatever the tide is doing, which on this island counts for a lot. Fifty-five bungalows, suites and villas each stand on their own among gardens planted with spices and palms, finished in warm timber with doors wide enough to open a room right up to the outside. Four bars and three restaurants between them cover a barbecue on the sand through to dinner at the water's edge, and the kitchen runs Swahili cooking classes for anyone who wants them.
