Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safaris

Wildtouch Tours & Travel is a Nairobi-based, owner-led operator founded by Jacob Munene, and we arrange tailor-made Rwanda gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park — an hour in the presence of a habituated mountain gorilla family, on the forested slopes a couple of hours' drive from Kigali. It is one of the most moving wildlife encounters on earth, and it combines cleanly with a Kenya or Tanzania safari under one Wildtouch booking.

We handle the permits, the lodges at the foot of the volcanoes, the transfers from Kigali and the rest of your East African trip as a single plan — so the gorillas slot into a wider safari without a second operator or a second set of logistics.

How much is a Rwanda gorilla permit, and is it included?

Rwanda's mountain gorilla permit is set by the government at US$1,500 per person for international visitors. It covers park entry, ranger guides and one hour with a habituated gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park. We list it separately and at cost in your quote — no mark-up, nothing hidden. (This is the published Rwanda Development Board rate; we confirm the current figure at booking.)

How fit do I need to be, and how far ahead should I book?

Treks range from gentle to demanding depending on where your gorilla family has moved — anything from one to several hours of walking at altitude, on steep, often muddy ground. Reasonable fitness helps and porters are available; the minimum age is 15. Permits are limited daily and the popular months (roughly June–September and December–February) sell out, so we'd secure yours three to six months ahead and lock it as we build your trip.

Questions, answered

How much is a gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda?
Rwanda's mountain gorilla permit is set by the government at US$1,500 per person for international visitors, covering park entry, ranger guides and one hour with a habituated gorilla family in Volcanoes National Park. We list it separately and at cost in your quote. (Published RDB rate; we confirm the current figure at booking.)
How far ahead should I book gorilla trekking?
Permits are limited daily and popular months sell out, so for peak season (roughly June–September, December–February) we'd secure yours three to six months ahead. Settle your dates with us early; we lock the permit as part of building your trip.
Can I combine Rwanda gorillas with a Kenya or Tanzania safari?
Yes — this is one of the most popular Wildtouch combinations. Because we cover Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda with one team, the gorillas can follow a Big Five safari under a single booking, with the flights and transfers handled as one plan.

Still deciding? Tell us your dates and we'll advise — no obligation.
