A country lodge on a working mixed farm high on the Rift escarpment at Karatu, around five kilometres from the Conservation Area boundary, with long views across the farmland to the Ngorongoro forest.
Acacia Farm Lodge stands above the Karatu farmlands where the Great Rift falls away, on a mixed farm still worked for coffee and shaded by mature trees. Suites are spread through cottages across the grounds, generously sized and each with a private balcony over the fields. Much of what appears at dinner is grown on the property, and the position — roughly five kilometres from the Conservation Area — makes it a practical base for a crater day without staying up on the cold rim.

Other places to stay nearby
Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge
Built from local river stone and timber and clad in living creepers, it blends almost invisibly into the crater rim while every room enjoys an uninterrupted view down into the caldera.
LuxuryLemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp
Set in an ancient acacia forest right by the crater's edge, it sits beside the quiet Lemala access route, giving guests one of the shortest and earliest descents to the crater floor of any property.
Ultimate luxuryThe Highlands by Asilia
Strikingly modern perspex-and-canvas geodesic domes set high on the forested slopes of the Olmoti volcano, well above the crater rim, delivering a contemporary design statement found nowhere else in the highlands.
Ultimate luxuryandBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
The crater's most theatrical address — stilted mud-and-thatch suites whose floor-to-ceiling windows look straight down into the caldera, each with its own butler, run as three small independent camps rather than one large lodge.
Ultimate luxuryEntamanu Ngorongoro
A small Nomad camp high on the crater's quieter north-western rim — the one place you can watch the sun come up over the Ngorongoro caldera and go down over the Serengeti plains.
ClassicNgorongoro Sopa Lodge
The crater's eastern-rim lodge, up on Lemala Hill at about 2,375 metres beside the quieter of the two descent roads — and the only one on the rim with a pool.
ComfortNgorongoro Rhino Lodge
A straightforward, good-value lodge inside the Conservation Area itself, set back a couple of hundred metres from the rim in montane forest and run with the Maasai Pastoral Council so the income stays local.
LuxuryGibb's Farm
A working coffee farm dating from 1929 on the forested slopes above Karatu, set midway along the run from Lake Manyara up to the crater — closer to a country retreat than a safari base, and largely self-supplied from its own kitchen garden.
Ultimate luxuryElewana The Manor at Ngorongoro
An Afro-European country estate in the Cape Dutch style, set in a 1,500-acre working Arabica coffee farm beside the Conservation Area — closer to an up-country manor house than a safari lodge, with riding on the estate.
ClassicNgorongoro Farm House
Fifty-one ochre stone cottages scattered across a large working farm on the Karatu side — an easy, unhurried base for a crater day that skips the cold of the rim.
