Wilderness Classic Kenya — Eight Day Conservancy Safari
An eight-day Kenya safari built around the private conservancies that border the Maasai Mara, where walking safaris and night drives are possible — paired with Lake Nakuru and Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro.
About this safari
This is the classic Kenyan circuit with a wilder, more exclusive heart. Rather than only the main reserve, it places you in one of the private conservancies bordering the Maasai Mara — lower vehicle numbers, off-road access to sightings, and the two things the national reserve does not allow: guided walking safaris and after-dark night drives in search of the nocturnal wildlife most travellers never see. Around that wilderness core sit the flamingos and rhino of Lake Nakuru and the great elephant herds of Amboseli beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.
Wildtouch builds the eight days around you — the conservancy and lodge tier, the balance of game drives, walking and downtime, and special-interest touches from photography hides to a hot-air balloon at sunrise. The conservancy model also channels a share of your stay directly to the Maasai landowners who keep this country wild, so the trip gives something back to the place it celebrates.
What makes this one special
- Private-conservancy access bordering the Maasai Mara — fewer vehicles, off-road sightings
- Guided walking safaris and night drives, not permitted in the main reserve
- Lake Nakuru's flamingos and rhino sanctuary
- Amboseli's elephant herds beneath Mount Kilimanjaro
- A model that channels a share of your stay to the Maasai landowners
- Optional hot-air balloon safari at sunrise over the Mara
The journey, morning by morning
Arrival, Nairobi
Met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transferred to your Nairobi accommodation. The afternoon is yours, with an optional visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage. A safari briefing over dinner sets up the days ahead.
Nairobi to Lake Nakuru
A scenic morning drive through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. An afternoon game drive seeks out the flamingo flocks, both black and white rhino, and the rare Rothschild giraffe, with sweeping Rift Valley views from Baboon Cliff.
Lake Nakuru to the Mara conservancies
Drive south-west into one of the private conservancies bordering the Maasai Mara, arriving in time for lunch. An afternoon game drive — able to go off-road to sightings — introduces the open plains and their resident lion prides as the light softens into evening.
Mara conservancy — walking and wildlife
A guided morning walking safari with an armed ranger and a Maasai guide brings the small details of the bush to life — tracks, plants, birds and the stories of the land — before a relaxed brunch. The afternoon returns to the vehicle for big-cat country, with sundowners on the plains.
Mara conservancy — into the reserve and after dark
A full day crossing into the main Maasai Mara reserve for its extraordinary concentrations of lion, cheetah and — in season — the wildebeest river crossings. Back in the conservancy, an after-dark night drive picks out the nocturnal wildlife — genets, bushbabies, hunting leopard — that the reserve's rules keep hidden.
The Mara to Amboseli
A scheduled flight (or a long scenic road transfer) brings you south to Amboseli National Park beneath Mount Kilimanjaro. An afternoon game drive begins the search for the park's legendary elephant herds against the backdrop of Africa's highest peak.
Amboseli — full day
A full day in Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drives. Early light on Kilimanjaro behind the elephant herds is one of the iconic East African images, and the park's marshes draw hippo, buffalo, zebra and a wealth of birds.
Amboseli to Nairobi — departure
A final morning game drive in the soft early light before the transfer back to Nairobi for your homeward flight. Day rooms can be arranged for evening departures; Wildtouch handles the airport transfer and check-in assistance.

The year on this safari, month by month
June to October for the dry season and the wildebeest migration in the Mara ecosystem (July to October); January to March for a green, quieter season with excellent predator viewing.
Indicative pattern for Kenya's safari circuit. The long rains (around March–May) and short rains (around November) shift year to year.

Questions travellers ask
- Why stay in a private conservancy rather than the main reserve?
- The conservancies bordering the Maasai Mara cap vehicle numbers, allow off-road driving to sightings, and permit guided walking safaris and night drives that the national reserve does not. You still drive into the main reserve for its big-cat density and river crossings — so you get both.
- Is the walking safari safe, and how far do you walk?
- Walks go at an easy pace with an armed ranger and an experienced Maasai guide, and are about reading the bush — tracks, plants, birdlife — rather than covering distance. They suit a wide range of fitness, and are entirely optional.
