About this safari

This is Kenya's defining safari circuit, distilled into a week. Beginning in Nairobi with a comfortable morning transfer, the route climbs into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru — home to thousands of greater and lesser flamingos, both black and white rhino, and Rothschild giraffe. From there, a scenic drive south delivers you into the heart of the Maasai Mara, Kenya's most celebrated wildlife reserve. Two full days in the Mara give time to find lion prides, leopard in the riverine forests, and — depending on the season — the dramatic river crossings of the wildebeest migration. The final leg drops south-east to Amboseli, where the snow-capped silhouette of Kilimanjaro provides the backdrop to Amboseli's celebrated elephant herds and big-tusked bulls. Throughout, Wildtouch's guides bring the wildlife knowledge that turns a holiday into a story worth telling.

Wildtouch builds every safari around you. Jacob and the team shape the accommodation tier — from mid-range tented camps through to luxury private-conservancy lodges — the pace, whether relaxed three-night stays or faster overnight transitions, and the special-interest add-ons: a walking safari in the Loita Hills, a hot-air balloon flight over the Mara, a cultural visit to a Maasai manyatta. The seven-day structure stands alone, or becomes the wildlife heart of a longer journey extending to Kenya's coast or onward into Tanzania.

The journey, morning by morning

  1. Arrival, Nairobi

Met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by a Wildtouch representative and transferred to your Nairobi accommodation. The afternoon is yours to rest after the flight, or take an optional visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust orphan-elephant nursery or the Giraffe Centre. A safari briefing over dinner makes sure the next day's departure runs smoothly.

  2. Nairobi to Lake Nakuru

A scenic morning drive through the Great Rift Valley escarpment delivers you to Lake Nakuru National Park — one of the most photogenic and wildlife-dense parks in Kenya. After lunch, an afternoon game drive seeks out the park's famous flamingo flocks, both black and white rhino, the unusual Rothschild giraffe, and Cape buffalo. The Rift Valley views from Baboon Cliff make a memorable late-afternoon stop.

  3. Lake Nakuru to Maasai Mara

After an early breakfast, drive south through the Loita Hills and into the Maasai Mara — Kenya's most celebrated reserve, and one of the great wildlife destinations on earth. Arrive in time for lunch at your camp, with an afternoon game drive across the plains. The Mara's open grasslands hold extraordinary concentrations of lion, cheetah and hyena, and — in season — the dramatic Mara River wildebeest crossings.

  4. Maasai Mara — full day

A full day in the Mara with morning and afternoon game drives, a picnic lunch in the bush, and time to find the reserve's big predators. The Wildtouch guides know the established prides and the recent leopard sightings, and time the day around where the wildlife is moving. An optional early-morning hot-air balloon safari followed by a champagne breakfast on the plains is available as an extra.

  5. Maasai Mara and a Maasai cultural visit

A morning game drive concentrates on whatever the previous days have not yet covered — the search for leopard in the Talek River forests, or following a cheetah hunting on the open plains. After lunch, a visit to a local Maasai manyatta offers an authentic insight into pastoralist life and traditional culture, before a final afternoon game drive.

  6. Maasai Mara to Amboseli

A long but scenic transfer takes you south-east to Amboseli National Park, sitting in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. Arrive in time for lunch, with an afternoon game drive across the park's open plains. Amboseli is famous for its enormous elephant herds — multi-generational families that move through the marshes and across the dusty pans, often with the snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro rising dramatically behind them. For photographers, this is one of Africa's great image-making landscapes.

  7. Amboseli to Nairobi — departure

An early-morning game drive in Amboseli captures the soft golden light on Kilimanjaro before a return transfer to Nairobi. Day rooms can be arranged in Nairobi if the international departure is in the evening. Wildtouch handles the airport transfer and check-in assistance for the homeward flight.

Questions travellers ask

How fit do I need to be for this safari?
Very little fitness is required. Wildlife viewing is done from a comfortable 4×4 game viewer, with short walks at viewpoints and around camp. The optional balloon flight and cultural visits are gentle. The safari suits a wide range of ages and mobility.
Will I see the Great Migration on this trip?
The wildebeest migration moves through the Maasai Mara roughly between July and September, including the dramatic Mara River crossings. Travelling in those months gives the best chance of the crossings, though the Mara holds outstanding resident wildlife — lion, cheetah, elephant — all year round.
Can the itinerary be changed or extended?
Yes. Every Wildtouch safari is tailor-made. The pace, accommodation tier and length are shaped around you, and this circuit extends naturally to Kenya's coast, more nights in the Mara, or onward into Tanzania. Tell Jacob what you have in mind.
