Volcanoes National Park is the most visited park in Rwanda. It is home to the greatest primatologist Dian Fossey. Her effort to conserve the gorilla and curb poaching of the primates, has seen great improvement in increasing the numbers of this endangered primates.
The volcanoes National Park is home to the 10 gorilla families and you will have an opportunity to visit one of them. Also, pay a visit to the endangered golden monkeys in the volcanoes National park
On this day it’s meet and greet at the Kigali International Airport. Later we transfer you to your city hotel for dinner and overnight at Serena Kigali Hotel (BB)
On this day, we shall pick you up at your city hotel after your morning breakfast. We shall visit the Kigali city and tour the Gisozi memorial genocide site. Learn about the Rwanda genocide of 1994 that led to the killing of over 500,000 citizens. Thereafter, we shall visit the King’s palace and later the local market to purchase souvenirs. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch in the city and later take a 2- 3 hrs journey to the volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight at the Virunga Lodge (BLD)
After our early morning breakfast, your driver will drive you to kinigi park office. Here you will be briefed on the dos and don’t of the park before we embark on the hike. The trek takes 2 – 6 hrs with the trek starting 0700 hrs. At the Volcanoes National Park, there are 10 gorilla families and you will be assigned one depending on how fit you are. After locating this magnificent primates, you are allocated an hour to observe them. Follow the instructions of your guide at all times and do not be scared even if the silver-back tries to show dominance. Avoid unnecessary movement at all times that may trigger the gorillas.
After the thrilling hour with the gentle giants of virunga, we head to our lodge for lunch and later take a tour to the gorilla guardian village. Learn the transformation history of the place as you engage with the community in traditional songs and dances. Dinner and overnight at the Virunga Lodge (BLD)
After our early morning breakfast we shall head at the Volcanoes National Park for yet another primate safari. Today we are going to track the endangered golden monkey. At the gate, kindly hire a porter to carry your luggage if you have to. These primates are less in size compared to the giant gorillas and are not triggered by flash lights from your camera. After an hour and a half, you will come across these beautiful monkeys feeding at the top of tree branches. They are social animals and live in families of approximately 80 individuals. After spending sometime observing them, you will leave and head back to the gate for your lunch and refreshments. You take a tour to lake Ruhondo and Burera. Main activities include nature walks, canoeing and bird watching. Return back to your Virunga lodge for dinner and overnight. (BLD)
On this day we wind our primate safari and return to Kigali. Upon arrival, we shall drop you at the airport or your city hotel to continue with the rest of your itinerary.
